One late night in a friend's basement, deeply involved in a session of Dungeons and Dragons, the party was attempting to sneak through a war-torn city of giants under siege by a flight of dragons. As the night wore on and they fought through several rough encounters, they discovered that the dragons all seemed to explode upon death. In the most notable of these battles, the group was fighting several drakes at once, and when the first died, the explosion that followed killed another drake...and the combined blast killed two more. Ultimately the party was nearly liquefied in the chain reaction.

Colin looked up at me and glared. 'Of COURSE it explodes, you asshole. Why WOULDN'T it explode? God I hate you so much.'

And so we had a guild.

We all started up our WoW accounts shortly thereafter. We got to 80, though, realized that Of Course it Explodes couldn't really be taken seriously, and reformed under the name Aegis [pronounced ee-jiss], which is a name commonly associated with shields, defenses, etc, as well as the shield/breastplate of Zeus and sometimes Athena, which had the Gorgon's head mounted on it.

Aegis raided successfully for several months until I came down with a serious case of depression and started to have a tough time dealing with...everything. We jumped ship from Alliance to Horde and merged with a guild called Audacity, whose GM had an odd obsession with feet. She was an excellent player and an excellent GM and made things fun all around, but after a few months I started to burn out in Icecrown and left the game, returning for Cataclysm. Gradually, the guild drifted apart in my absence. But come the Cataclysm, we reformed under the banner of Torn Asunder, and have been going strong since, despite my leave of absence in the middle.

Our guild leadership is based around those friends that started playing D&D together years ago. I'll go into detail on the structure and such in another post, but for an intro:

We have lives. Pavan has a rough school schedule [He's double-majoring, quadruple-minoring, applying to med school AND working], Forrest's isn't much better. I work full time as a manager at my local Pizza Hut, dealing with moronic customers all day. It's stressful. We play this game to keep in touch, since we're scattered across the country half the time. And we play to have fun. We have low tolerance for obnoxious, dramatic bullshit. To listen to us people might think we really hate each other, the way the verbal abuse happens. But we have a DAMN good time playing together. And we're looking to build a community to play within for a game we've all been waiting years to play.

So come. Join the dark side. We have cookies. Does the Alliance/Republic have cookies? Of course not. They probably eat tofu or something.
